Guidelines for Poster Preparation

The Undergraduate research conference and YPC 2024 will accept only printed posters. You can refer to the APA site on how to make a good poster. 

Kindly print the poster in biodegradable material (paper, not plastic) and ensure that the poster is in portrait and not landscape (as in the template)

The poster should be a clear visual presentation of your full paper, should meet the following criteria:  

Title of the Poster  

• It is recommended to keep the title of the poster the same as in the submitted full paper. 

Poster size and format  

• You may adjust the poster size to the nearest 27x36 inches (as per the printing press).

• Make sure that you use the PPTX template provided by the conference committee for your poster.  

Your Information  

• The top of the poster should display, in the lettering of Bold (Times New Roman), the following information: Title of your Paper, and Name(s) of the Author(s).

• Poster should not contain identification details like the name of the affiliated institution, etc.  

• Use the Font Size as prescribed in the Template.

• Please put your Conference/ Abstract ID on the top right corner of the poster. 

Lettering  

• Kindly use both UPPER and lower case letters for general content, as all-capital text is difficult to read. It is recommended to use Times New Roman font style for the content of the poster. 

• Make sure there is enough contrast between the colour of the text and the poster’s background. 

• Use the Font Size as prescribed in the Template.

• Text and presentation should be in ENGLISH only. 

Content of the Poster  

• Make sure that the specific sections (such as the background, methods, results, and conclusions) are easy to locate in the poster. 

• Try to keep the text easy to read and concise. The poster should have a clear message, a logical layout and be easy to comprehend. 

• Avoid the use of full sentences and rather use short text in bullet point format. 

• Avoid using watermarks that may detract from the readability of your poster.  

Illustrations  

• Illustrations are the most important part of the poster and will attract the most attention. Colourful charts and graphs are the easiest to read. Explanatory illustrations should be used instead of text whenever possible. 

• Use only static images and do not embed any videos or animation in your poster.  

• Try to utilize the space on your poster as creatively as you can to attract the audience and make sure that the images are easy to understand. 

*Those selected for the UG conference (PSY651) must bring their supervisor-approved--printed poster on 6th April 2024, for the event. No soft copy submissions required.

Guidelines for Oral presentation

• The Paper presentation will be held on April 6th 2024

• The time allotted for each presentation will be 6-8 minutes followed by 3-5  minutes of Question and Answer session by the judges, in which participants will defend their methodology, major findings and conclusions. 

• The following is the format for the PPT presentation

  • APA 7th edition format should be followed

  • Use a PPT presentation with a solid light colour in the background. 

  • Virus scan your files before uploading them. 

  • You can use any of the following fonts - Calibri, Arial and Times new roman, in the font size 24 in the body of the presentation. Ensure that the font colour is black for higher visibility. 

  • Restrict use of animation, graphics,  features and background apps that may take up too much bandwidth during the live presentations. The focus should be on the content and clarity of the presentation.

  • The recommended minimum number of slides is 15 and the maximum number of slides is 30 including references. 

  • The main sections are  Introduction, Rationale, Research Objectives and Hypotheses, Method, Results and Discussion and Conclusion. 

  • The supervisor must be mentioned as the last author in the presentation.

  • All other identification details other than the authors’ names (like institution, place, logo etc) should be removed from the presentation slides.

  • Only the student authors will be allowed to present and answer the judges’ queries. 

  • There is no limit to the number of presenters for the oral presentation. However it is mandatory for the first author to be part of the live presentation.

  • The decision of the judges and organizers will be final. 

  • Certificates will be provided only for the student authors and an e-certificate will be emailed within one week of the conclusion of the YPC event. The cash prize for the winning team will be remitted via net banking to the corresponding author.
